postlingually
deafened – deafness that occurs after
language has been acquired.
pressure-equalizing
(PE) tube - a tube that is inserted in the eardrum to equalize the
pressure between the middle
ear and the ear canal and
to permit drainage. Also called a tympanostomy tube.
prelingually
deafened - an individual who is either born deaf or who lost his
or her hearing early in childhood, before acquiring
language.
